Akt

An akt is a document or record, such as a birth, marriage, or death record. Akts are usually in paragraph form and numbered sequentially.

Typically, two or three birth akts appear on each page. The same is true of death records. Marriage records are longer, and therefore usually take up an entire page.

In most cases, a single book of records covers a single year, and the records appear in this order: all birth records — all marriage records — all death records. An index usually appears at the end of each type of record.

The index lists given name(s) and surname, as well as the akt number and possibly the page number.

At the beginning of each section of a book of birth, marriage, and death records, you might see one of these:

Akt urodzenia
Birth record

Akt małżeństwa
Marriage record

Akt zgonu
Death record
