Maps of Częstochowa, Poland, From the 1930s and 1940s

If you find a member of your family listed in Częstochowa records from the 1930s along with a street name, it might be useful to see that location on a map from that era.

As you search for streets relevant to your family, note that there have been many changes over the years. For example, on the second map below, the name Ogrodowa disappears: the street’s northern section becomes Berka Joselewicza, and the remainder becomes Generała G. Dreszera. In addition, Wilsona does not appear, and the western end of Spadek becomes Garibaldiego.

Częstochowa 1930?

Though listed at Śląska Biblioteka Cyfrowa (Silesian Digital Library) as 1930, it is more likely from 1932 or later, because the index lists the street Berka Joselewicza, which first appeared in Częstochowa birth, marriage, and death records in 1932. On the other hand, ulica Dreszera first appears in Częstochowa death records in the autumn of 1938, while ulica Ogrodowa appears earlier that same year, so perhaps the map is in fact from 1938 or 1939.

Częstochowa “pre-1939”

Though listed at Śląska Biblioteka Cyfrowa (Silesian Digital Library) as “pre-1939,” it is more likely “pre-1932,” because the index does not list the street Berka Joselewicza, which first appeared in Częstochowa birth, marriage, and death records in 1932.
